Traffic Court Records in Yalobusha County
Yalobusha County uses more than one court for traffic matters. The county Courts page sends Mississippi Highway Patrol and Yalobusha County Sheriff tickets to Justice Court. That court also handles DUI, county-ordinance, public-service, gaming, fishing, and Marine Reserve tickets. City traffic and ordinance cases belong to the Municipal Court for Water Valley, Coffeeville, or Oakland when the citation names that court.
The docket stays with the court that received the citation. A Justice Court file can show the citation or charge, appearance, plea, orders, disposition, and court costs. Municipal files serve the same local function for city cases. PAMEC is not a countywide ticket index. It is the public electronic-record route for participating Circuit and Chancery cases, so it may become relevant only if a lower-court matter is appealed into Circuit Court.
Yalobusha Justice Court Ticket Routing
There is no official countywide citation-lookup website in the sources reviewed. That makes the issuing agency and court caption on the paper citation important. A Highway Patrol or sheriff ticket belongs with the Yalobusha Justice Court Clerk, Jacqueline P. Spensor, at 662-675-8115. District 1 Judge Janet Caulder is listed at 662-675-2025, while District 2 Judge Trent Howell is listed at 662-473-1271 in the current state directory.
For a city citation, use the city court instead. Coffeeville Municipal Court is listed at 662-675-2642, Oakland Municipal Court at 662-623-8668, and Water Valley City Hall at 662-473-2431. The citation, not the town where a driver lives, identifies the correct court. Note: A PAMEC search cannot confirm a ticket that still sits in Justice or Municipal Court.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety is the state traffic-safety agency, but it does not replace a request to the court that holds the citation file.
The county’s courthouse-contact page identifies the local office network used for court business.
How to Look Up a Traffic Ticket
Keep the citation in hand when possible. The official sources do not publish an online form or a fixed citation-number format for Yalobusha Justice Court or its municipal courts. The clerk can use the citation number, the name as printed on the ticket, and the citation or appearance date to locate the proper file. Ask the clerk which details are required before sending information by mail or phone.
- Read the citation caption, issuing agency, citation number, and printed appearance date. These identify the record custodian.
- For Highway Patrol or sheriff tickets, call the Justice Court Clerk at 662-675-8115 and ask for the case status and current court date.
- For a Water Valley, Coffeeville, or Oakland city citation, call the municipal contact named for that city rather than assuming Justice Court has the file.
- Visit or write to the responsible court if the clerk asks for a paper request. Bring or include the citation number, full name, date, court, and exact record requested.
- If the matter has moved on appeal, ask whether a separate Circuit Court docket exists and then use PAMEC or the Circuit Clerk as directed.
Yalobusha Municipal and City Traffic Files
A ticket issued inside a city may be a Municipal Court case, not a Justice Court case. The official municipal judge directory lists Rusty Harlow Jr. for Coffeeville, Gaines Baker for Oakland, and Trent Howell for Water Valley. The county and state sources found no public municipal docket, online payment screen, or city fee schedule for these courts.
That gap has a practical answer: call the city court named on the ticket, ask whether the citation has been entered, and confirm the accepted route for payment, a hearing request, or a copy. A city-court appeal can appear later as a separate Circuit Court record. It does not erase the original municipal case or move its copy request automatically to the Circuit Clerk.
Finding Your Traffic Court Date
The printed citation is the first source for a traffic appearance date. Call the issuing court before travel because Yalobusha does not publish a daily lower-court calendar. A court date can change through a later notice, order, reset, or continuance. The clerk can confirm the court, date, and current status, but should not be asked to give legal advice.
| Citation number | Use the number printed on the ticket. Yalobusha does not publish a standard format such as XX-000000. |
|---|---|
| Court | Justice Court for listed county and state-law tickets, or the named Municipal Court for city matters. |
| Date and time | The appearance date on the citation, as changed only by a later court notice or clerk confirmation. |
| Setting | Ask whether the entry is an appearance, hearing, trial, or other setting. A term calendar is not an individual traffic setting. |
| Status | The clerk can confirm whether the matter remains pending, has a disposition, or needs a current court instruction. |
Yalobusha Traffic Course Option
Mississippi Code §63-9-11 provides a state traffic-safety violator-course option for some eligible misdemeanor violations. The statute requires, among other things, a valid Mississippi license or permit, an affidavit, payment of applicable fine, costs, and assessments, and a $10 election fee. The person must make the request in person or by a writing mailed no later than the citation appearance date.
The court may defer sentencing for 90 days while the person completes at least four hours of an approved course. A qualifying completion can lead to dismissal and closure under the statute. The county does not publish a local course list, application, or eligibility decision, and commercial-driver-license cases are excluded from the stated subsection. Confirm the process with the issuing Justice or Municipal Court before relying on it.
Note: The course option is a statutory court process, not a promise that every Yalobusha citation can be resolved without a hearing.
Paying or Contesting a Ticket
The citation instructions and court clerk control the response method. Yalobusha’s official sources do not provide a universal payment link, a local fine schedule, or one deadline rule for all tickets. Before mailing money, ask whether payment is treated as a plea, whether an appearance remains required, and what payment methods the particular court accepts. A person who contests a citation should contact that court before the printed appearance date to ask how to enter a not-guilty plea or request a hearing.
| Paying the Ticket | Contesting the Ticket |
|---|---|
| Confirm whether payment is accepted as a plea and what disposition the court will enter. | Ask the issuing court how to enter a not-guilty plea and obtain a hearing or trial setting. |
| Use the citation date or a later court instruction. No universal county deadline is published. | Contact the court before the citation appearance date; the court sets the applicable process. |
| Use only a payment path confirmed by Justice or Municipal Court. | Use the court’s confirmed in-person, mail, or other accepted method. |
Missed setting: The county does not publish a local failure-to-appear fee, warrant policy, or hold procedure. MEC vocabulary includes Bench Warrant Issued and Capias Pending, but the exact consequence must be confirmed with the issuing court. Do not assume a payment clears a missed setting or removes any court action.
Yalobusha Traffic Court Days
Mississippi Code §9-11-15 requires a Justice Court in a county with fewer than 150,000 people to designate at least one-half day each month for traffic matters and to give those matters priority on that day. This is a scheduling rule. It is not an online calendar, an appearance deadline, or proof that a particular case will be heard on every traffic day.
For a Yalobusha date, read the citation and then ask the clerk for the current setting. If an older notice conflicts with a newer court entry, the newest signed notice or clerk confirmation is the safer source. The Mississippi judicial directory and calendar publishes court-term material, but those documents do not replace a case-specific Justice or Municipal Court setting.
Court Traffic Record vs Driver Record
A traffic case produces two different kinds of records with two custodians. Justice Court or Municipal Court keeps the court file for the citation and its court events. The Mississippi Department of Public Safety maintains the separate driver record. This distinction is useful when requesting the actual court disposition: the court that heard the citation is the source for its docket and order.
| Court Traffic Record | Driver Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Justice Court or the issuing Municipal Court. | Mississippi Department of Public Safety. |
| Shows | Citation or charge, plea, appearance, orders, disposition, and court costs. | Licensing information and reported convictions. |
| How to get it | Ask the issuing court or clerk for the docket, disposition, or copy. | Use the separate DPS process for a state driver-record transaction. |
Yalobusha Traffic Court Record and DPS
Mississippi Code §45-3-25 requires a Highway Patrol officer to send an abstract of the court record to the Commissioner of Public Safety after a traffic proceeding. The abstract identifies the charge, trial date, disposition, and sentence. That reporting duty does not turn the court’s file into the same record as the state agency’s licensing file.
Justice Court expunction rules have the same separation. Section 9-11-15 says a Justice Court expunction does not affect the driving record. A reader who needs the court’s written disposition should request it from the court that handled the citation rather than treating a DPS inquiry as an authenticated court record.
Fees and Copies
Yalobusha’s official sources do not publish a Justice Court or Municipal Court copy-fee schedule. Give the clerk the citation or case number, court, date, and the item needed, such as a docket printout, disposition, receipt, order, or certified copy. Ask whether the court can fulfill the request in person, by mail, or through another confirmed channel before sending payment.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fine for a particular ticket | Not published | Use the citation and issuing court. No universal county fine table was located. |
| Justice or Municipal Court copy | Not located | Confirm plain and certified-copy pricing with the court custodian. |
| Traffic-safety course election | $10, if eligible | Statutory election fee under §63-9-11; course tuition is separately paid and not locally published. |
Yalobusha Traffic Record Search Details
Because no online citation form was located, the known search fields are the details a clerk can use, not fields guaranteed by a web portal. Use the spelling on the citation and do not supply more personal information than the court requests. The court may need a citation number, name, citation date, appearance date, or the court identified on the paper.
| Channel | Useful detail | What is known |
|---|---|---|
| Justice Court | Citation number, defendant name, citation or appearance date | Phone or counter route; no public web form located. |
| Municipal Court | Citation number plus the identity and date requested by that city | No city-specific online fields were located. |
| Circuit appeal | Lower-court case information and appeal details | PAMEC may apply only after the case reaches a participating Circuit docket. |
That court-first approach prevents a common error: looking for a Justice or city citation in the electronic Circuit system before it has been appealed.
Yalobusha Traffic Court Record Contacts
For a county or state-law ticket, start with Justice Court Clerk Jacqueline P. Spensor at 662-675-8115. A District 1 question can also be directed to Judge Janet Caulder’s listed public number, 662-675-2025, and a District 2 question to Judge Trent Howell’s listed number, 662-473-1271. Ask the clerk which office holds the docket before making a trip.
Municipal contacts differ: Coffeeville is listed at 662-675-2642, Oakland at 662-623-8668, and Water Valley at 662-473-2431. Those local contacts are the documented fallback because no official countywide citation portal was located.
